Six seats are open in local township elections

With at least one seat open in the each of the upcoming March 13 township board of supervisors elections, township residents have until next Tuesday to decide whether they'd like a shot at participating in their local government.

Filing for affidavits of candidacy opened around Dakota County on Tuesday, Jan. 3. Township clerks at Castle Rock, Empire and Eureka townships are accepting affidavits through 5 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 17.

In Empire, the three-year seat held by Ed Gerten is up for election. Empire Town Hall is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays and 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Doors to Empire Town Hall will remain open until 5 p.m. on Jan. 17.

Eureka Township has the positions of Supervisor 3, held by Nancy Sauber, and Supervisor 4, held by Pete Storlie, open. Both are three-year terms. Eureka Town Hall hours are 4 to 6 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays.

In Castle Rock, the two-year post held by township clerk Jane Bistodeau is on the ballot. Additionally, the three-year posts held by vice chair Drea Doffing and supervisor Mark Doffing are also up for election this year.

Castle Rock voters will also be asked whether they feel the town clerk's position should be an elected position or a post appointed by the town board of supervisors.

Hours of operation at Castle Rock are from 8 a.m. to noon on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Bistodeau asks that anyone who wants to submit an affidavit of candidacy outside of the normal hours call Castle Rock Town Hall at 460-2221, or set up an appointment with her by emailing castlerocktownship@frontiernet.net.
