Student column: Surround yourself with love
Today if you go to any store that has anything chocolate or Valentine’s related, beware. Since Valentine’s Day is tomorrow, many people might be hurriedly shopping for a last minute gift for their significant other. Here’s a tip: if you’re getting something for a girl, you can’t go wrong with flowers, chocolates, cute little teddy bears or a sentimental card. If you’re looking for something for a boy, sorry, I can’t help you there. I wouldn’t have even the slightest idea of what to get them.
Being a mutual friend of a couple, I’m helping both of them pick out gifts for the other one without either of them knowing I’m helping the other one. It’s very hard to keep the secret, especially since the girl is one of my best friends and I tell her everything. Well, except for this. I’m good friends with her boyfriend too, and even though he’s a super great guy, I’m more worried about him getting her her gift on time. We picked something out for her, and I texted him on the Friday before Valentine’s Day and he hadn’t gotten it yet. Talk about panic on my part. He assured me he would get it in time, so let’s hope he’s right.
With this girlfriend of mine and her boyfriend hanging out on Valentine’s Day, my other good girlfriend and I decided to make a date of our own. I’m sure many of you have heard about or seen the trailer for the movie Endless Love starring Alex Pettyfer. We decided on going to this movie on Valentine’s Day. We will probably be surrounded by a bunch of couples celebrating, but we are determined to see it and will deal with all the mushy gushy lovey dovey actions we will be encircled with.
After the movie, we were going to drive to the nearest Dunkin Donuts to try out their heart shaped cookie dough donut. Since we both love cookie dough, this was almost our favorite plan of the day. Until a week before Valentine’s Day when we realized that there are no Dunkin Donuts in Minnesota. So much for our sweet, sugary cookie dough goodness donut that we wanted so much.
As a plan B, we decided we would go to Red Robin and just have time for some girl talk, which is just as good as a cookie dough donut … kind of.
Just kidding! But I’m looking forward to spending this day with one of my best girl friends.
The weekend before Valentine’s Day, my dad slipped a little note underneath my bedroom door. Turns out it was an early Valentine’s Day note. It said, “All foods before dudes.” What a great way to get a laugh out of me.
No matter who you spend your Valentine’s Day with or what you do, I hope you are surrounded by the ones you love.
