In 2009, Haugen was MASA's Richard Green Scholar and in 2011, he received the Minnesota School Public Relations Association District Leadership for Excellence in Communication award.

As MASA President,Haugen would like to guide school systems towards new forms of organization and delivery to match the needs of our increasingly global and technical society.

"I've worked with political leaders on both sides of the aisle and understand the true impact of a strong educational system.
