Swimming: Kirchmann leads Tigers at Prior Lake
A short-handed Farmington boys swimming and diving team opened the season with a third-place finish at Saturday's seven-team Prior Lake Invitational.
The host Lakers won the meet, outscoring runner-up Cretin-Derham Hall 478-392. The Tigers were third with 288 points, followed by Watertown-Mayer-W-D-Holy Family (250), Apple Valley (214), White Bear Lake (198) and Shakopee (190).
"The meet went pretty well," Farmington coach Ryan Hamen said. "The boys have really stepped up the yardage here in the beginning of the season during practice and were a little tired going into it, but (they) were very excited to do well. We had a couple of guys unable to make the meet due to ACT testing, but overall we were able to get some guys in different events."
Chris Kirchmann was Farmington's top finisher, placing second in the 50 freestyle and third in the 100 freestyle. He also joined teammates Zach Holton, Nick Stephan and Aaron Lane for a third-place finish in the 200 medley relay and a fourth-place showing in the 400 freestyle relay.
Holton added a fourth-place effort in the 100 butterfly, Stephan took fifth in the 100 breaststroke and Eric Schimmel nabbed fifth in the 200 freestyle.
Other top-10 finishes came from Holton in the 200 individual medley (6th), Aaron Cochnauer in the 100 butterfly (7th), Cameron Molnar in the 500 freestyle (7th). Schimmel in the 100 freestyle (10th) and Stephan in the 200 individual medley (10th).
