Tennis: Tigers play well in spurts during loss
Farmington Minnesota P.O. Box 192 / 312 Oak St. 55024

The Farmington boys tennis team jumped out to good starts in several matches before fading in a 7-0 loss Monday at Simley.

"We took it on the chin today," Farmington coach Jack Olwell said. "What started out to be a promising opportunity ended with disappointment as several matches got away from us."

No.1 singles player Seth Roberts dropped his match, 3-6, 1-6. Ben Cline (2-6, 4-6), Blake Olmsheid (1-6, 4-6) and Chaise Murphy (3-6, 4-6) were also competitive in defeat.

"We had some chances and played well in spurts but couldn't maintain momentum and let leads slip away in each of the matches," Olwell said. "Blake and Chaise each had a strong second on which they will build."

In doubles play, Tyler Olson and Topher Kirshmann lost their first set 4-6 before being blanked 0-6 in the second set. Peter Folz and Simon Lindstrom dropped a 0-6, 2-6 decision at No. 2 doubles and Jeff Zakoski and Austin Rau suffered a 1-6, 2-6 setback at No. 3 doubles.
