Tennis: Tigers top Richfield to improve to 9-5

Three singles victories carried the Farmington girls tennis team to a 4-3 win over Richfield Monday afternoon at the Boeckman Middle School courts.

The victory raised the Tigers’ record to 9-5 on the season with three matches remaining.

Ryan Jara, Jessie Novotny and Callie Olmscheid all won their singles matches in straight sets. In the other singles match, Megan Stivers overcame a 3-6, 1-4 deficit before losing 8-10 in a super tiebreaker. In doubles play, Hannah Toomey and Sam Gallagher battled back from a 1-6 loss to win their second set 6-4 before dropping a 9-11 tiebreaker.

The Tigers’ lone doubles win came from Lindsey and Beth Fairchild, who upped their team-best record to 14-3. Olmscheid and Jara are each 12-5 in singles play.
