Thompson will not seek Senate Majority Leader position
David Thompson, the Lakeville Republican who represents Farmington in the Minnesota Senate, has announced he will not run for the Senate's currently vacant majority leader position.
Senate Republicans are scheduled to vote Dec. 27 on a replacement for former majority leader Amy Koch, who stepped down amid allegations she had an inappropriate relationship with a man on her staff.
Thompson, a freshman Senator, currently serves as an assistant majority leader but said he's not interested in the new title.
"I am confident this is the right decision," Thompson said in a statement Wednesday. "I will support the candidate I believe to have the combination of integrity, core principles and administrative skills necessary to move Minnesota's agenda forward."
