Tiger tennis team wins at Mound

The Farmington girls tennis team started the fall season in fine fashion Monday night, winning its opener at the Mound Doubles Invitational for the first time in over a decade.

"There were some stirring come-from-behind wins," Farmington coach Jack Olwell said. "It was very rewarding and there was some high level of play from a lot of our newcomers."

The Tigers edged host Mound-Westonka 9-8 as their doubles teams swept the top three spots. Freshmen Claire Padrnos and Lindsey Fairchild went 2-0 at No. 1 singles, freshman Beth Fairchild and eighth-grader Ryan Jara were 2-0 at No. 2 singles and junior Megan Stivers and freshman Callie Olmscheid were 2-0 at No. 3.

The tandems of Tasha Sinha and Rachel Rees, ShyAnne Spurzem and Liz Adams and Molly Rudorfer and Heather Kelzenberg each went 1-1.

The Tigers open their dual season this afternoon with a non-conference match against Faribault at Boeckman Middle School.
