One night of vandalism at several Farmington homes has left the residents who live at those homes with hundreds of dollars in damaged property.

On July 29, Farmington police received reports of significant property damage from seven residents living on the north end of town. The addresses, police detective sergeant Jim Murphy said, were on both sides of Pilot Knob Road, but within walking distance.

Murphy suspects the damage was done by kids. The damage included things like broken landscape lighting, lawn lights in the streets, and a landscape rock thrown through a backyard fence.

But police also received four separate reports of extensive damage to above-ground swimming pools. Three homeowners reported damage, including damage to the pool liners and holes in the sides of the pools, causing the pools to drain.

The vandals even tipped over a porta-potty at Hill Dee Park, Murphy said.

Police would like to know if there are any residents who saw one or more kids out roaming the streets between 187th Street and 182nd Street on the night in question.

“We got a flurry of these all in one day,” Murphy said. “If anybody knows anything, they can call us or use the Tip411 (online tip service) and remain anonymous.”

Murphy said the police department has increased its patrol efforts in that area over the past week. The weekend was quiet, he said Monday.

Still, if residents see groups of kids out after dark, they are encouraged to call 911.
