VFW baseball: Minnetonka shuts down Post 7662

Jake Baskerville led off the game with a triple, but Farmington couldn't get the big hit to bring him home.

That set the tone in Monday's night's 5-0 shutout loss at Minnetonka.

Minnetonka used two pitchers to hold the VFW to five hits over seven innings - one apiece from Baskerville, Ty Vincent, Nate Graham, Nick Newman and Ryan Schoening.

"We just couldn't get the big hit. We had our chances," VFW coach Jared Rowan said. "We played a pretty solid game all-around."

Minnetonka scored one in the second, two in the fourth, one in the fifth and one more in the sixth against Drew Hegseth, who went the distance and struck out five in the loss.

The VFW closes out the season this week with home games Tuesday and Thursday and a road game at New Prague Wednesday.
