A couple of close losses last week knocked the Farmington VFW baseball team out of the sub-district tournament.

Farmington won a pair of games in the tournament by a combined score of 31-2, but lost two others that came down the final inning. In last Thursday's tournament opener at Chaska, Post 7662 allowed just three hits but still lost to Chaska 2-1 after a base on balls and a walk-off double in the bottom of the seventh. After destroying South St. Paul and Hastings, Post 7662 gave up three runs in the top of the eighth in a season-ending 5-3 loss to Rosemount on Saturday.

"It really is sad to see the season end as the kids had such a great year," coach Jon Graff said. "This is a fun bunch to work with. They competed, gave a great effort until the end and learned more about the game as we went."

Austin Martinsen, Bobby Eckert and Christian Groves each had two hits in the loss to Rosemount. Dylan Bergstad allowed one unearned run over the first six innings and left with a 2-1 lead, but Rosemount rallied for three runs over the final two innings against Martinsen.

Post 7662 advanced by defeating South St. Paul 10-0 and Hastings 21-2 on Friday. Parker Holmstrom and Maverick Carlson each supplied three of the team's 13 hits against South St. Paul. Carlson, Carter Blomster and Andrew Lupkowski each drove in a pair of runs and Carlson, Lupkowski, Groves and Nathan Kraml each scored twice.

Holmstrom held South St. Paul to two hits and struck out nine over five shutout innings.

Post 7662 scored 11 runs in the second inning to take a 16-0 lead against Hastings. Blomster led a 20-hit attack with four hits, four runs scored and four RBI. Bergstad went 3 for 3 with four runs scored and five RBI and Kraml was 3 for 4 with four RBI.

Robert Kramer added three hits and two RBI.

Bergstad got the win, allowing two runs on four hits over 4 2/3 innings.
