Volleyball: Farmington fights back but falls to Rosemount in three games
After opening the season with back-to-back wins over Big Nine Conference teams Albert Lea and Austin, the Farmington volleyball team got a chance to measure itself against a stronger opponent Thursday in Rosemount.
The Tigers were blown out 25-8 in Game 1, but improved throughout the final two games as they bowed out 25-21, 25-16 for their first loss of the season at Irish Gym.
"The difference was completely defense. Rosemount is such a good defensive team, they make it tough to score points and that can be frustrating," Farmington coach Mike Woody said. "However, coming back after being destroyed in Game 1 and having a legit chance to win Game 2 was a big improvement. We took a step in the right direction and had a good practice Friday."
Allie Pierskalla led the Tigers up front with five kills. Bekah Lippert added four kills and Courtney Johnston and Emma Fahning each had three.
Ruthanne Schmitt helped out with two ace serves and seven assists.
Rachel Eckert led the defense with 16 digs and Fahning chipped in 12.
The Tigers (2-1) open Missota Conference play tonight with a 7 p.m. road game at Red Wing.
