Volleyball: Farmington swept at own tourney
Playing on your home court is usually an advantage, but it hasn't helped the reeling Farmington volleyball team over the last 10 days.
Fans looking on at Tiger Gym have seen the Tigers lose six straight home matches during that stretch, including all four at Saturday's Farmington Invitational, dropping their record to 4-10.
In the opener, the Tigers dropped a back-and-forth 28-26 contest to Jordan, and then fell 25-10 in Game 2. Two more close games didn't go the home team's way against New Ulm (25-23, 25-21), and then Bloomington Kennedy rolled past the Tigers, 25-15, 25-11. Another close one slipped away in the final match of the day as White Bear Lake held on 26-24, 23-25 and 15-7.
Coach Mike Woody came away from the tournament feeling like he didn't see his team play its best in any of the four matches.
"It comes down to playing well. In our first two matches against Jordan and New Ulm, we didn't have anyone step up to put balls away at the end," Woody said. "Match 3, we just didn't play well. Match 4, again we were there, but couldn't finish Game 1, and in Game 3 we gave them too many to start."
