Volleyball: One and done in Section 1AAA

The Farmington volleyball team had its 7-20 season come to an end with a 3-0 loss to Red Wing in the opening round of the Section 1AAA tournament last Wednesday in Red Wing.

The Tigers overcame an early deficit in the opening game to get back within a point late, but Red Wing held on for a 25-23 victory. The Wingers carried that momentum over into the next two games as they pulled away, 25-17 and 25-9.

"After losing Game 1, I think the way to sum up the rest of the match was to say we were trying too hard," Farmington coach Mike Woody said. "We tried so hard to pass well, we gave Red Wing a lot of overpasses. We tried so hard on defense, we overplayed a number of balls."

Bekah Lippert and Laure Steege led the Tigers with nine kills apiece. Emily Nelson added six kills and setter Mia Johnston provided 10 assists.

Emma Fahning and Adrienne Jolicoeur led the defense with 12 digs apiece. Nelson chipped in seven and Allie Pierskalla added six.

The Tigers graduate five seniors from this year's team: Jolicoeur, Lippert, Steege, Pierskalla and Andrea Smith.

"This was such a good group of girls. They worked hard and were good spirited," Woody said. "This may be one of the few years that I will look back on and say that team chemistry was not what held us back."
