Wrestlers looking ahead to sections
With top-seeded Bloomington Jefferson/Kennedy looming in the first round of next weekend's Section 2AAA tournament, Farmington's chances at a state team berth don't appear to be very good.
But several individual members of the team still have plenty to wrestle for. The Section 2AAA individual tournament is the following weekend in Prior Lake and the Tigers are hoping to improve on last year's total of two state qualifiers.
Three Tiger wrestlers are currently in the top 10 in the state rankings and two of them -- eighth-ranked Carl Elmer and sixth-ranked Eric Adrian -- went 2-0 during last week's Missota Conference dual losses to New Prague (54-24) and Northfield (52-21). Adrian won both of his matches by fall, while Elmer worked his way to victory in a pair of close decisions. On Friday he rallied from a 4-1 deficit to beat sixth-ranked Tristan Faust of Northfield, 8-6, in overtime.
Will Pauling also went 2-0 last week at 152 pounds. He had a pin against New Prague and an 8-2 decision at Northfield.
Jake Bauman (fall) and third-ranked Nick Albano (7-2) added wins against New Prague and Seth Franklin scored a 10-5 win against Northfield.
