Farmington Youth Football League and Farmington Community Education will team up this fall to continue the popular youth football program in the Farmington area. Organizers of the league were finding it increasingly difficult to coordinate and maintain the growing program. Youth football has a long history in Farmington of providing children grades 1-6 the opportunity to experience the game of football, learn skills, build teamwork and develop good sportsmanship.

Farmington residents Tim Thompson, Louie Schmitz and other organizers have struggled with how to continue the program.

"With the growth of the community, difficulty in recruiting volunteers and the time involved in running a quality program, we were faced with closing down the program or finding a resource in the community to help continue the tradition of fall football for youth that Louie Schmitz started years ago," Thompson said.

Farmington Community Education was approached and after discussion, it was decided the youth football program could be facilitated through Farmington Community Ed. With support from the organizers and volunteers who coordinated the program for so many years, Farmington Community Education will coordinate and manage the program as a Youth Enrichment program. Registration information and dates will be released soon by Farmington Community Education.

The program will still require interested parents to help coach or to assist the volunteer coaches. Youth enrichment coordinator Marianne Feely is working with Farmington Youth Football organizers to make the transition as seamless as possible.

"Louie Schmitz has graciously shared his experience and expertise as a coach and mentor. This fall, Schmitz will hand the ball to Farmington Community Ed who will continue a great experience for all involved in Farmington Youth Football." Feely said.

Volunteers interested in helping with this transition or serving as a coach, can contact Marianne Feely at 651-460-3200.
