The 2008 Adapted Soccer State Tournament followed a familiar pattern for the Blazing Cats.

The third-year team made up of players from Farmington, Burnsville, Lakeville and New Prague was sent to the consolation bracket after their third straight first-round loss to Anoka-Hennepin. The Mustangs failed to win their third straight team championship — they lost a 4-3 heartbreaker to Robbinsdale/Hopkins/Mound in the finals — but the Blazing Cats were able to bounce back with a second-round victory for the third straight year en route to their second straight sixth-place finish.

And, once again, Farmington senior Jon Schmitz was named to the all-tournament team. Schmitz scored a tournament-record 13 goals in 2006, nine goals last season and capped off his prep soccer career with 10 goals and five assists in this year's tournament. He had seven goals and two assists in Saturday's 9-4 rout of Park Center and two more goals and two assists in a back-and-forth 10-6 loss to Moundsview/Irondale/Roseville in the fifth-place game.

Christine Beltz of Farmington also competed for the Blazing Cats.
