Wrestling: Tigers sweep first triangular

The Farmington wrestling team got its season off to a good start by sweeping a triangular last Thursday at Tiger Gym.

Seven wrestlers went 2-0 as the Tigers earned a 48-24 dual victory over Brooklyn Center/Concordia Academy and a 48-27 decision over St. Thomas Academy.

"It was a good start for us," Farmington coach Jon Lund said. "We only dropped three matches in two duals and we were definitely in those matches.... I was happy with everyone's effort. We constantly tell the boys that if your attitude and effort are there, you can't disappoint us with the results."

But the results matched the effort in Thursday's opener. Newcomer Cody Karey and returning wrestlers Seth Franklin, Nate Mills, Carl Elmer, Eric Adrian, John Gardner and Nick Albano each picked up victories by fall against Brooklyn Center/Concordia Academy and Franklin, Elmer and Adrian each added second pins against St. Thomas Academy. The dominating performance in matches wrestled helped overshadow the 24 points the Tigers lost via forfeit in each dual.

"It is tough right now to know that going into every dual we are down 24-0 because of forfeits, but we don't focus on that," Lund said. "We focus on these young men that have made the commitment to the team."

St. Thomas had its own issues with forfeits in its second dual with Farmington, handing over six points in all but five matches.
