Inurnment will be in Fairview Cemetery in the spring.
Mineva Edith “Mickey” Fritze, 86, died Sunday, Jan. 11, 2009, at Regions Hospital in St. Paul.
Mineva Edith “Mickey” Madland was born on May 2, 1922, in Winchester, Wis. She grew up in Cottonwood, Minn., and graduated from Cottonwood High School. She had a teaching degree in music from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn.
She was united in marriage to Dean Fritze on Aug. 20, 1949, in Cottonwood. They moved to Hayfield, Minn., in 1949, where her husband was a teacher, principal and later superintendent of the Hayfield Schools. Mickey substitute taught and raised her family. Dean retired in 1984. The couple moved to Apple Valley in 1987, and the past eight years have resided in Farmington.
Mickey enjoyed attending sporting events, playing cards, music, and volunteering and helping others and spending time with her family. She helped with the elderly flu shots in Apple Valley and worked at Dakota County Community Action Council and was a member of Farmington Lutheran Church.
Mickey is survived by her husband, Dr. Dean Fritze, Farmington; daughter, Judy (Kurt) Kiekbusch, Winona, Minn., Michael (Kris) Fritze, Apple Valley, Joel (LaMae) Fritze, Hayfield, and David (Deb) Fritze, Apple Valley; sister, Mabel (George) Nelson, Brainerd, Minn.; and 11 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, one brother, and one son, Gary.
The family prefers memorials to the American Diabetes Association. Czaplewski Family Funeral Home in Hayfield is in charge of arrangements.
