Farmington's performance, both figuratively and literally, wasn't up to par in last Wednesday's season-opening meet at Fountain Valley Golf Course.
Returning conference champion Greg Werner turned in what veteran head coach Gerry Greupner considered a solid round of 78 on the 18-hole course, but the rest of the Tiger lineup was nine strokes back in a 336-341 non-conference loss to Faribault.
"We had a rather tough day of it, all in all," Greupner said. "We had one good score from Greg Werner, which was expected, but the rest were a bit disappointing. It is early, however, and hope is standing just outside the door, I think."
Seniors Tony May and Dan Erickson provided Farmington's next two counting scores behind Werner. Each carded a round of 87. Freshman Mitch Reed added a round of 89 in the No. 4 spot.
Non-counters were junior Brandon Beers, who shot a 91, and freshman Vic Simones, who turned in a 92.
In the JV meet, junior Sean Rice led the Tigers with a 91. Jake Hanson shot a 92, Tom May turned in a 96 and Tony Lalani added a 100.
The Tigers were back at Fountain Valley for a Missota Conference meet Tuesday afternoon. They play again Friday morning at the Shattuck-St. Mary's Invite at Legacy Golf Course. Results from those two meets will appear in next week's Independent.
