Since August of 1982 the facility now known as Rambling River Center has provided a gathering place for Farmington’s senior community. But as of October, 2009, Farmington seniors have a brand new Rambling River Center.
The facility, long located on Third St., has moved to a much larger space in Farmington’s former city hall building.
Part of the city’s parks and recreation department, the senior center provides a number of services for Farmington residents 50 years of age or older.
The center works with the CAP organization to provide congregate dining and Meals on Wheels every day. It also organizes trips to dinner theater, museums and other locations.
The center offers computer classes on subjects such as computer basics, e-mailing, Internet surfing and Microsoft Word.
The new Rambling River center features an expanded weight room for seniors and offers activities that include classes on wood carving to line dancing. It is also the meeting place for a group of senior model train enthusiasts.
The center holds a number of fundraisers throughout the year. It sponsors a Kiss the Pig contest during Rambling River Days.
