The Farmington City Council is made up of a mayor and four at-large council members, each serving a four-year term.

The terms of mayor Todd Larson and council members Julie May and Terry Donnelly expire in 2012. The posts of council members Christy Jo Fogarty and Steve Wilson run through 2010.

The council meets at 7 p.m. on the first and third Mondays of each month at Farmington City Hall.

Economic development authority

The seven-member Farmington Economic Development Authority serves as an advisory council to the Farmington City Council. The EDA meets at 7 p.m. on the fourth Monday of each month at Farmington City Hall.

Planning commission

The Farmington Planning Commission meets at 7 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month at City Hall.

Water board

The Farmington Water Board oversees the delivery of water to Farmington residents. The board operates separate from the rest of the city and has budgetary authority over water-related issues. The board meets at 7 p.m. on the fourth Monday of each month at Farmington City Hall. For more information on city water services, call city engineer Kevin Schorzman at 651-280-6841.

Heritage preservation commission

The Farmington Heritage Preservation Commission advises the city council on matters regarding the preservation of historic buildings and neighborhoods in Farmington. The HPC meets at 7 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday of every other month at City Hall. Rambling River Center Advisory Board

The Rambling River Center Advisory Board provides recommendations on programs, facilities and services that affect Farmington seniors and the operation of the Rambling River Center. It meets at 9:30 a.m. on the second Monday of every month at the center. For more information on the Rambling River Center Advisory board, call recreation supervisor Patti Norman at 651-280-6971.

Parks and recreation commission

The Farmington Parks and Recreation Commission oversees the development of the city’s parks, trails, open space, recreation facilities and programs. The commission meets at 6 p.m. on the second Wednesday of every month at City Hall. For more information, call parks and recreation director Randy Distad at 651-280-6851.

• Farmington’s economic development division deals with issues related to both business and residential growth and construction. You can reach the economic development division at 651-280-6821.

•The Farmington finance department handles the city’s budget and other money issues. You can reach the finance department at 651-280-6880.

• You can reach human resources director Brenda Wendlandt at 651-280-6806. Wendlandt is also responsible for the city’s information technology.

•Farmington operates two municipal liquor stores, one downtown and one along Pilot Knob Road in the northern part of the city. Funds raised by the liquor stores go to the parks and recreation department for the purchase of playground equipment and other related improvements. •The Farmington Parks and Recreation Department oversees all the city’s parks and open space, which consists of more than 722 acres in all, more than 40 miles of trails, a outdoor swimming pool, Schmitz-Maki Arena, recreation programs and The Rambling River Center.

• The Farmington police department’s officers and staff are stationed at a facility at 195th Street and Pilot Knob Road. Brian Lindquist is the police chief. For non-emergencies, call 651-280-6700. For emergencies, dial 911.

• Farmington’s volunteer fire department protects 30,000 people and an area of 88 square miles. It operates from two stations, one at 21625 Denmark Ave. and one at 19695 Municipal Dr. Firefighters perform 250 to 300 hours of service per year. • The Farmington municipal services department handles everything from sewer and water issues to road repair to snow plowing in the winter.
