The Farmington gymnastics team failed to defend its title at the season-opening Winter Warm-Up Saturday in Austin, placing second out of eight teams with a score of 133.55.

“It was quite a reality check for the girls. We have a lot to polish up. That’s why they call it the Winter Warm-Up,” coach Lynn Bauman said. “The girls now know what they need to work on to get ready for our first conference meet against Red Wing (Dec. 15).”

The Tigers were at their best in the bars where Haley Luhman broke the school record with a 9.3, then Terra Klima re-established the record with a score of 9.4. The record was previously set by Bauman, a 1993 Farmington graduate.

Luhman added an eighth-place vault of 8.75 and finished eighth in the all-around with a score of 34.25. Amy Kiminski earned sixth in the beam with a score of 8.25 and ended up 10th in the all-around with a 33.2

Kathryn Beckett led the Tigers in two of the four events, placing seventh in the vault (8.8) and fifth in the floor exercise (9.1).
