Just two winters ago Farmington gymnastics coach Lynn Bauman was excited to see her team achieve a score in the low 130s. Now, she believes her squad has what it takes to reach the 140 mark by the end of the season.

The Tigers continued to raise expectations with what Bauman believed was first quad-meet victory in program history Saturday in Apple Valley. Farmington turned in a team score of 135.6, narrowly edging both second-place Mahtomedi (135.15) and third-place Apple Valley (134.8).

“The girls are beginning to get more confident with their performances, which is helping. Just a little more confidence and some sticky feet and we should be hitting a 140 soon,” Bauman said. “I don’t think the girls realize that they are really good and they just need to show off what they’ve got.”

Haley Luhman led the Tigers in the all-around with a fourth-place score of 33.90. She was third in the bars with an 8.6 and fifth in the beam with a score of 8.3.

First-year varsity gymnast Terra Klima won the bars with a score of 9.3 and Kathryn Beckett emerged to best the field in the floor exercise with a score of 9.15. Beckett was also fourth in the beam with an 8.45 and fifth in the vault with an 8.85, two places behind teammate Erin Hickey’s 8.9.

The Tigers were victorious in Tuesday’s home opener as well, rolling to a 133.15-123.475 decision over Red Wing.

Luhman paced the team in the all-around with a score of 34.55. She won the vault (8.775) and beam (8.5) and placed second in both the bars (8.6) and floor exercise (8.675).

Klima earned first in the bars with a score of 9.25 and Beckett posted a winning score of 9.0 in the floor exercise. Beckett also placed fourth in the vault.

Amy Kiminski finished second behind Luhman in the all-around by placing second in the vault, fourth in the bars, third in the beam and fourth in the floor exercise en route to a total of 32.4.

Hickey chipped in third-place performances in the floor and beam and Miranda Guilfoyle finished fifth in the beam.

Farmington also won the JV meet, 107-99. Taylor Just led the way with an all-around score of 30.15.

The Tigers compete again Dec. 30 at Rosemount.
