Your weekend: Read to dogs Saturday at the library

Looking for something to do this weekend? Here are a few options to consider.

Thursday

Guitar Hero at the library

Teens can play Guitar Hero on the big screen at the Dakota County Farmington Library from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Feb. 18.

The library is located at 508 Third St. For more information call 651-438-0250.

Open mic night

There will be an open mic night Feb. 18 at the Ugly Mug coffee shop and bar.

The Ugly Mug is located at 18450 Pilot Knob Road in Farmington.

Friday

Live music

Dean Butler will perform at 8 p.m. Feb. 19 at the Ugly Mug coffee shop and bar.

High Brown and the Shades will perform at 8:30 p.m. Feb. 19 at the Farmington American Legion.

Genealogy meeting

The Dakota City genealogy group will meet at 1 p.m. Feb. 20 at the Dakota City Museum. The topic for the meeting will be information and resources available at the Dakota County Historical Society. For more information, call 651-460-2439.

Steak fry

The Farmington VFW will hold a steak fry fundraiser for Boy Scout Troop 118 from 5 to 8 p.m. Feb. 20. The VFW is located at 421 Third St.

Read to dogs at the library

Children can practice their reading skills by reading to different breeds of therapy dogs or have the dog handlers read to them at the library’s Waggin’ Tales program from 10:30 a.m. to noon Feb. 20. Research has shown that children improve their reading confidence and fluency when reading in a relaxed environment.
