Farmington’s boys golf team used a fifth-place team finish at Monday’s Missota Conference Championships to vault into a sixth-place tie with Red Wing in the final league standings.
The Tigers combined on a team score of 341, eight strokes off the pace of fourth-place Shakopee and a single stroke ahead of sixth-place Northfield. New Prague won the meet thanks to a tie-breaker over runner-up Holy Angels, and moved into a first-place tie with Prior Lake for the regular season championship.
Senior Brandon Beers and junior Mike Dalhed led Farmington on the Crow River Country Club course with matching rounds of 83. Beers shot a 40 on the back nine and Dalhed posted a team-best 39.
A pair of sophomores — Ryan Kelly and Tommy May — rounded out the varsity top four with scores of 86 and 89, respectively. May was the only Tiger golfer to earn all-conference honorable mention honors for his high finishes throughout the regular season.
The varsity lineup was completed by Cooper Loew, who shot a 91, and Victor Simones, who carded a 96.
The JV was led by Kevin Olund, who shot an 82, and Trevor Hockert, who turned in an 85. Head coach Jon Holmes said both golfers could crack the varsity lineup for next week’s section meet.
The Tigers open Section 1AAA Meet play next Tuesday at Bellwood Oaks Golf Course.
