The Dakota County Regional Chamber of Commerce will host a candidate forum from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sept. 29 at city hall.
The first hour of the forum will focus on the on legislative races.
The candidates for the District 36 State Senate race are Dave Thompson (R) and Steve Quist (DFL). Both seek the seat vacated this year by the retiring Pat Pariseau. The State Representative candidates in District 36B are incumbent Pat Garofalo (R) and Sigrid Iversen (DFL).
The second hour will focus on the city council race. Two seats are open on the Farmington City Council. The candidates running for the positions are incumbents Christy Jo Fogarty and Steve Wilson and Jason Bartholomay, Lenny Hall, Don Hayes, Dave Pritzlaff and Jerry Ristow.
Chamber president Ruthe Batulis said the candidates will be given some time at the beginning to give a brief introduction of themselves. Then a moderator will ask candidates a number of business related questions. At the end of the hour residents will get the chance to ask the candidates questions.
“Our job is to educate voters on the business issues,” said Batulis. “It’s never been more important to be an educated voter.”
Batulis said the focus of the forum will be business, which she added will be a big issue this election year.
“Jobs are going to be one of the top issues during this election and it’s important voters know where candidates stand on business issues,” said Batulis.
The forums are free and open to the public. The local cable access will host the forums live and recordings are available for viewing until the election.
