Farmington gymnastics coach Lynn Baumann was impressed by her team’s first performance of the season Saturday, and so were some of the other coaches at the Winter Warm-Up Meet in Austin.

“We had an Amazing meet,” Bauman said. “I had many compliments from other coaches saying our team was really fun to watch, and they were right.”

The Tigers won two of the meet’s four events, as well as the all-around, as they topped the seven-team field with a score of 135.8. Austin was second with a 131.15, followed by Rochester John Marshall in third at 129.15. Bauman’s team improved its score from last year’s Austin meet by two points despite some rule changes that should make high scores tougher to come by this season.

“Scoring was hard to watch because they were low and it will be hard to see big scores this year with the new scoring system,” Bauman said.

Farmington’s Kiana Lord had no problem with the new scoring system. She won the all-around with a score of 34.40. She won the beam with a score of 8.9, led the team with a third-place score of 9.15 in the floor exercise and added fifth- and sixth-place finishes in the vault and bars, respectively.

Returning state qualifier Terra Klima paced the team in the bars with a third-place score of 8.1 and Nadia Lorencz topped the field in the vault with a score of 9.2

Kylie Wharton placed third in the all-around with a score of 33.70. She was second in the beam and fourth in the floor exercise.

The Tigers compete in their first Missota Conference meet of the season tonight at Red Wing.
