Wrestling: Tigers score 16 points at Fargo

The young and inexperienced Farmington wrestling team faced its share of challenges while competing in the largest high school wrestling tournament in the nation last week.

The young and inexperienced Farmington wrestling team faced its share of challenges while competing in the largest high school wrestling tournament in the nation last week.

The Tigers scored 16 points while going up against all-state performers, state champions and national competitors from around the midwest at the 56-team Rumble on the Red at the FargoDome in Fargo.

Scott West outscored Jackson County Central 201.5-182.5 for the team title.

Senior Carl Elmer accounted for 12 of the team’s 16 points while placing eighth in the 145-pound bracket. He went 3-3 in six matches to move his record to 15-5 this season.

The Tigers’ other four points were provided by Kyle Benjamin, who went 1-2 at 103 pounds.

Matt Rustad, Joe Liden , Josh Iverson, Chris McCue, Joe Hoeve and Tyler Beckett also competed in the varsity tournament.

The Tigers compete again tonight in a dual meet at Faribault.
