Wrestling: Elmer, Hoeve go 2-0 at triangular

Carl Elmer and Joe Hoeve were the only Farmington wrestlers to post 2-0 records during last Thursday’s triangular meet against Rosemount and Northfield at Farmington High School. The Tigers fell to Rosemount, 57-24, in the opening dual, then lost to Northfield, 54-19.

Carl Elmer and Joe Hoeve were the only Farmington wrestlers to post 2-0 records during last Thursday’s triangular meet against Rosemount and Northfield at Farmington High School.

The Tigers fell to Rosemount, 57-24, in the opening dual, then lost to Northfield, 54-19.

Elmer picked up his 98th and 99th career victories, pinning both of his opponents at 140 pounds. Teammate Joe Hoeve followed with a pair of pins of his own at 145 pounds, improving his record to 9-7.

John Walz added a pin at 112 pounds against Rosemount and Godfrey Mpetey won via forfeit at 215 pounds. Alec Wilson and Trevor Breezely were pinned in their first career varsity matches.

The Tigers got off to a good start against Northfield thanks to an 11-1 major decision by Kyle Benjamin at 103 pounds. The Raiders responded with five straight wins before Elmer and Hoeve’s pins.

Trevor Engel picked up Farmington’s fourth win of the dual with a 12-9 decision at 171 pounds.

Brian Caravantes was pinned in his first varsity match.

The Tigers compete again tonight when they host Shakopee for a Missota Conference dual meet.
