Gymnastics: Tired Tiger gymnasts fall to Northfield

A stretch of four meets in nine days may have taken a bit of a tole on the Farmington gymnastics team.
The Tigers lost a close 141.35-140.875 contest to New Prague last Tuesday at the Instructional Services Center, then saw their team score drop to 136.65 in a nine-point loss to the defending Class 2A State champion Raiders Friday at Northfield.
“The girls were a bit sore and tired due to having a meet on Tuesday, but I believe they held up pretty good,” Farmington coach Lynn Bauman said.
Terra Klima was Farmington’s only first-place finisher in the bars where she tied for top honors with a score of 9.35. Teammate Nadia Lorencz tied for second in the vault with a 9.4, placed third in the floor exercise and finished fourth in the all-around with a 34.3.
Kylie Wharton was fifth in the all-around with a score of 33.95.

A school-record score of 36.326 in the uneven bars was offset by a 1-2-3 New Prague finish in the balance beam as the Trojans edged the Tigers last Tuesday night.
“What a nail-biter!” Bauman said. “It is all starting to come together, if we could only have all the girls stay on the beam we would be golden. The energy in the gym (Tuesday) was exciting!”
Klima led a 1-2-3 finish in the bars by breaking her own school record, posting a score of 9.65. Kiana Lord followed with an 8.975 and Lorencz was third at 8.925.
Lorencz broke 9.0 in two other events as she claimed first place in both the vault (9.45) and floor exercise (9.175). Wharton was second in the floor exercise and led the Tigers in the all-around with a second-place 34.1
Kathryn Beckett added a fourth-place finish in the vault and a fifth-place showing in the floor exercise.
Jade Alm led the Tigers with a fourth-place 9.15 in het beam and Klima was right behind with a 9.1.

Taylor Schmaltz had the top all-around score for Farmington with a 29.65.
Leah Rohde tied for first in the floor exercise with a score of 8.75.
Maddie Timerson was second in the vault with an 8.4. Alm led the Tigers in the bars with a fourth-place finish and Schmaltz topped the team with a fourth-place showing in the balance beam.
