A team record score in the floor exercise helped the Farmington gymnastics team to a third-place finish at the Missota Conference Championships last Tuesday at the New Prague Gymnastics Center.
The Tigers placed three individuals in the top 10 in the event and earned 36.85 of their 142.1 team points. Defending state champion Northfield outscored New Prague 149.3-142.9 for the team title.
“The floor was the most entertaining event for us,” Farmington coach Lynn Bauman said. “The girls really performed their hearts out. Everyone was watching.”
Nadia Lorencz paced the Tigers with a fifth-place score of 9.35 in the event. Tahra Eckert was right behind in seventh with a score of 9.275 and Kathryn Beckett placed 10th at 9.2
Kiana Lord had the team’s top finish — a second-place 9.15 in the balance beam — and led Farmington in the all-around with a fourth-place score of 35.975. Lord added an eighth-place vault and a ninth-place balance beam.
Lorencz placed sixth in the all-around with a 35.375. She led the team with a third-place vault score of 9.375. Terra Klima placed third in the bars with a score of 9.45 and added a ninth-place 8.65 in the balance beam.
The Tigers compete again tomorrow in the Section 1AA Meet at Lakeville South.
“I am very proud of all the progress the girls have made. I am also excited for the section meet on Friday,” Bauman said. “Our goal is to finish second as a team, I know we can do it if we keep our heads up.”
