Keith Revels saw no reason to make up excuses. His Farmington Tigers simply ran into a better team in Saturday’s Section 1AA semifinals.

Top-seeded Lakeville South scored three goals in each of the first two periods at the Rochester Recreation Center and ended up advancing to the section finals with a 7-0 victory. The Tigers, who entered having won five games in a row, were shut out for the first time in 13 months.

“Not sure there is much else to say. They are a very good team and they took it to us,” Revels said. “We played hard. We were a little tight with the puck, never really got into a flow and we were not very composed with the puck.”

The Cougars (17-8-1) took control early with three goals in a four-minute span midway through a first period where they posted a 25-2 advantage in shots on goal. The final shot tally was 58 for Lakeville South and just 11 for Farmington.

Starting goaltender Victor Simones stopped 36 of 42 shots before giving way to Aaron Dahl, who saved 15 of 16 third-period shots.

“Victor played well. We gave them some pretty good looks, though,” Revels said.

The Tigers (14-13) opened section play as a No. 5 seed and quickly avenged an early-season 7-1 loss to Rochester John Marshall by blowing past the Rockets 6-1 last Thursday in Rochester.

Six Farmington players scored, starting with senior Tyler Grubb 1:27 into the first. Jake Sorensen and Andrew Peterson each found the net in the second, then Grant Hauswirth, Zak Payne and Matt Provost provided goals in the third.
