For the third straight year Farmington wrestler Carl Elmer will close out his season with a trip to the Class 3A State Tournament.

Elmer, who now stands at 32-7, advanced with an undefeated run through the 140-pound bracket at the Section 2AAA individual tournament Saturday at Prior Lake. Elmer opened with a pin, then advanced to the finals with a 15-7 major decision over Prior Lake’s Ryan Norton. In the championship, Elmer scored an 8-3 decision over Gavin Larsen (30-7) of Chaska/ Chanhassen.

Elmer will wrestle again at 1 p.m. Saturday at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, where he has a record of 1-3 over the last two years. He will go up against sophomore Chris Keske (24-15) of Sauk Rapids-Rice. A first-round victory would likely put Elmer up against Apple Valley standout Brandon Kingsley (39-2) in the second round.

Kyle Benjamin earned Farmington’s second-best finish in Section 2AAA, placing fourth at 103 pounds. Jacob Gabbard, Matt Rustad, Tyler Beckett and Brett Hoffman each scored sixth-place finishes.
