Harry Baker, age 95, of Northfield, passed away on Sunday, April 10, 2011, at the Reflections Suites of the Three Links Campus in Northfield.
Harry Baker, age 95, of Northfield, passed away on Sunday, April 10, 2011, at the Reflections Suites of the Three Links Campus in Northfield.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Thursday, April 21, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Northfield with burial at the Red Rose Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to services at the church.
Harry Francis Baker was born Sept. 22, 1915, in Davenport, Iowa, son of Frank and Alice (Bothfuhr) Baker. In the spring of 1916 his family purchased the Baker farm north of Northfield in Waterford Township. He began school at the country school near the farm and graduated from Northfield High School. Harry then began farming with his father.
On Oct. 22, 1938 he was united in marriage to Martha Kathryn Ozmun, and they made their home on the Baker farm. Here they raised their family and milked cows, raised hay and crops. Harry farmed until retirement and then for many years helped his son, John, who took over the farm.
In retirement, Harry and Martha enjoyed traveling, attending the grandchildren's activities, and were longtime members of St. John's Lutheran Church. In his free time Harry enjoyed woodworking, playing cards, country music, fishing, reading, baseball, gathering and cracking black walnuts, and meeting every Thursday with friends for lunch at the American Legion.
Harry is survived by daughters, Gloria (Chuck) Hutton of Amery, Wis., and Alice (Larry) Bates of Northfield; sons, John (Lanna) Baker of Northfield and Robert (Joan) Baker of Crosslake, Minn.; sister, Eloise Legare of Randolph; brother-in-law, Buster (Evelyn) Ozmun of Farmington; 10 grandchildren, Cathy (David) Cook, Mark (Denise) Hutton, Melissa (Todd) Wahl, Michelle (Joe) Amy, Maria Gardner, Chad (Celia) Baker, Jennie (Adam) Zulkosky, Lara (Scott) Cornell, Sara Bates, and Kristoffer (Annie) Bates; 18 great-grandchildren, Samantha Cook, Amos Hutton, Ashley Gardner, Emma Gardner, Elleana Wahl, Hailey Wahl, Sophia Amy, Carter Amy, Ian Baker, Kiera Baker, Tegan Baker, Luke Zulkosky, Kailey Bates, Havyn Cornell, Adaline Cornell, Myra Bates, Erin Bates, and Darcy Bates.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Martha; brothers, Roy and Robert Baker.
