An injury-riddled Farmington team proved no match for Chaska/Chanhassen Thursday night in Chanhassen.
With Quinn Malcolm, Jake Bauman, Alex Rojesky and Tyler Tutewohl-Klotz all missing from the lineup, the Tigers slipped to 0-3 with a 17-1 Missota Conference loss.
“Being so thin at defense with some newcomers made it difficult to stay with a more seasoned team that combined two schools that are both the size of Farmington,” Tiger coach Paul Sorensen said. “We held together as a team, but were just outmatched. We can take some positives away — we really saw the team come together regardless of the scoreboard.”
The Tigers trailed 12-1 at the break, with Luke Brevick supplying his first goal of the season. Chaska/Chanhassen scored just five goals in the second half while continuing to play its starters, another positive Sorensen said he hopes his team can build on.
Goaltender Charlie Weierke stopped 21 shots for the Tigers, who competed again Tuesday at Rochester Century. The team hits the road again tomorrow for a non-conference game at Owatonna.
