Your weekend: Scottish fair returns Saturday
Break out the kids and bagpipes and get ready to watch large men throw heavy things, because the Minnesota Scottish Fair and Highland Games returns to the Dakota County Fairgrounds Saturday. There's plenty more going on, too. Read on to find out what to expect.
Thursday
GROW Farmington
There will be a GROW Farmington meeting from 5:30 to 7 p.m. May 12 at Farmington City Hall, 430 Third St.
Friday
Horse show
There will be a horse show fundraiser from 5 to 8 p.m. May 13 at the Dakota County Fairgrounds.
Live music
Scott Friedow will perform at 8 p.m. May 13 at the Ugly Mug coffee shop and bar.
The Ugly Mug is located at 19450 Pilot Knob Road.
Live music
Driven will perform from 8:30 to 12:30 p.m. May 13 at the Farmington VFW. The VFW is located at 431 Third St.
Saturday
Scottish fair
The Minnesota Scottish Fair and Highland Games will take place from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. May 14 at the Dakota County Fairgrounds. The event will include pipe bands, food, traditional athletic, dance and harp competitions and several musicians. There will be sheep and highland cattle on display and dozens of exhibits that could help visitors track down their own Scottish heritage.
Downtown cleanup
A cleanup of the downtown business district originally scheduled for April 30 will take place from 9 to 11 a.m. May 14. Participants can meet at city hall.
Swap meet
There will be a demolition derby swap meet May 14 at the Dakota County Fairgrounds.
Live music
Late for Lunch will perform at 8 p.m. May 14 at the Ugly Mug coffee shop and bar.

Sunday
Pancake breakfast
There will be a pancake breakfast fundraiser for Farmington High School Spanish students from 8 to 10 a.m. May 15 at Applebee’s in Rosemount. Money raised at the event will help pay for student trips to Spain this summer. Tickets are available at the door, by calling Jessica Lee at 651-460-1549 or emailing jelee@farmington.k12. mn.us. Applebee’s is located at 15015 Cimmaron Ave.
Weekend
Whippet Club trials
There will be Whippet Clug dog training trials May 14 and 15 at the Dakota County Fairgrounds. Watch as trained sight hounds chase a lure around a course.
Live music
Hooligans will perform at 8:30 p.m. May 13 and 14 at the Farmington American Legion, 10 Eighth St.
