Seventeen runners from Farmington completed Saturday’s Grandma’s Marathon from Two Harbors to Duluth.
The top local finisher was Scott Briske, who completed the 26.2-mile race in 3 hours, 15 minutes, 5 seconds, to place 492nd out of 6,333 runners. The second Farmington finisher was Leah Theorin, who finished 1,189th in 3:35.36. She placed 249th out of 2,678 female competitors.
The oldest Farmington finishers were Ed and Cathy Lauer, each 59 years old. Seventeen-year-old Bailey Opsal, a member of the Farmington High School cross country and track teams, was the youngest local finisher.
Other Farmington marathoners were Jon Athmann, Dave Baumbach, Jay Fricke, Matthew Dinneen, Joely Dimian, Jackie Brula, Mark Schneider, Janet Schneider, Andrew Lazaretti, Laurie Husaby, Mara Devens and Amanda Thooft.
Christopher Kipyego of Austin, Texas, won the race in 2:12.15, edging runner-up Teklu Deneke of Flagstaff, Ariz., by two seconds.
The following local runners completed the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon: Zach Broughten, Mary Angevine Beck, Andrew Waldbillig, Bryant Lewis, Brad Anderson, Nikki Fricke, Atef Dimian, Leah Silk, Suzie Anderson, Brittnee Kuehn and Tony Young.
