Your weekend: Garden open house is Saturday
This weekend is light on activities, but there will be plenty to do in Farmington starting Monday when the Dakota County Fair kicks off. In the meantime, you can keep yourself busy with a farmer's market, a computer class, an open house at Farmington's community garden and a free shooting event for kids.
Thursday
Farmer’s market
The Farmington farmer’s market will take place from 3 to 6 p.m. August 4 on Third Street by city hall. A number of local vendors will have fresh produce and other items for sale.
Computer basics class
The Dakota County Farmington library, 508 Third St, will offer a computer basics class from 2 to 4 p.m. Aug 4. The class will go over topics such as using the mouse and keyboard.Class is free but registration is required. Questions, call 651-438-0250.
Saturday
Community garden open house
There will be an open house from 10 a.m. to noon Aug. 6 at the Farmington Community Garden. The garden, located on the grounds of Meadowview Elementary School at 6100 195th St., has 20 plots tended by gardeners, some of whom will be on hand to answer questions. There will also be free recipes, lemonade and displays of recycled garden art and functional yard items
Free youth shoot
There will be a free shooting event for boys and girls 16 and under from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 6 at the Dakota County Gun Club, 17501 Station Trail. All equipment will be provided free of charge and participants will be outfitted with rifles, shotguns, ammunition and protective eyewear. Participants will get one-on-one instruction.
