Megan Stivers’ rally at No. 4 singles allowed the Farmington girls tennis team to avoid a sweep at the hands of Burnsville last Tuesday.

Stivers lost her first set 2-6 before recovering for a 6-2, 6-3 victory.

“After a slow start I thought Megan played maybe her best match of the year,” Farmington coach Jack Olwell said. “Her forehand, which had previously given her trouble, now is controlling the rallies and becoming a weapon.”

Also turning in their best performances of the year, according to Olwell, were No. 1 and 2 singles players Meghan Lindstrom and Maggie Rudorfer. Lindstrom lost 2-6, 6-7 (5) and Rudorfer fell 2-6, 4-6.

The Tigers found less success against a tough Red Wing team on Thursday. The Wingers swept both the singles and doubles matches for a 7-0 victory.

“Red Wing was very talented,” Olwell said. “We were coming off kind of a high from the Burnsville match where we were near the top of our game, so a letdown is not surprising.”

The Tigers took on Trinity Monday and Chanhassen on Tuesday. They are back in action this afternoon when they host Shakopee at Boeckman Middle School.
