Your weekend: Read to therapy dogs Saturday at the library
Kids can hear a story from a firefighter, then climb on a fire truck Friday at the library. Afterwards, their moms can find out more about the Moms Club of Farmington. Or, if you're hungry, support Boy Scouts with a Friday steak fry or the Farmington Lions with a Sunday morning breakfast of pancake and French toast.
Thursday
Free chair massages
There will be free chair massages from Sweet Serenity Massage from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 13 at Dunn Bros. Coffee in Farmington. Dunn Bros. is located at 20700 Chippendale Ave.
Friday
Storytime with a firefighter
The Dakota County Farmington Library will host storytime with a firefighter from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Oct. 14. Kids can hear a story from a firefighter, then climb on a fire engine. The library is located at 508 Third St.
Live music
Singer/songwriter/guitarist Char Engen will perform original folk/bluegrass music from 7 to 9 p.m. Oct. 14 at Dunn Bros. Coffee. Dunn Bros. is located at 20700 Chippendale Ave.
Moms Club open house
The Moms Club of Farmington will hold an open house from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Oct. 14 at the Dakota County Farmington Library, immediately after storytime with a firefighter. Food and beverages will be provided.
Saturday
Waggin' Tales
Children of all ages can practice reading by reading to different breeds of therapy dogs or by having the dog handlers read to them from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Oct. 15. Research has shown that children improve their reading confidence and fluency when reading in this relaxed environment. The library is located at 508 Third St.
Steak fry
Boy Scout troop #119 will hold a steak from 5 to 8 p.m. Oct. 15 at the Farmington VFW. The VFW is located at 421 Third St.
Sunday
Lions Club breakfast
The Farmington Lion’s Club will hold a pancake and French toast breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. Oct. 16 at Gossip’s Bar and Grill. Proceeds will go to Lions eye, hearing and diabetes research at the University of Minnesota.
Membership breakfast
The Farmington American Legion will hold its annual membership breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon Oct. 16 at the Legion club. Members who have paid their 2011-12 dues can enjoy a free buffet breakfast. Members who have not paid can pay on Sunday.
