Sophomore Kaitlyn O’Reilly was part of two meet-record performances, and finished first in all four of her events in leading Farmington to second place in the Section 1AA True Team Meet Saturday at Dodge Middle School.
The Tigers scored 596 points, 25 off the pace of meet champion Rochester John Marshall. Owatonna placed third with 425 points and Winona was fourth with 393 points.
“The meet was exciting from start to finish,”?Farmington coach Jen Marshall said. “John Marshall just had a little more than we did at the end. We're really looking forward to championship season.”
O’Reilly started the meet by joining Abby Haugen, Hannah Seitzinger and Zoe Avestruz for a meet-record time of 1 minute, 55.13 seconds in the 200 medley relay. She came back to events later to win the 200 individual medley in a time of 2:18.25.
O’Reilly, Seitzinger, Avestruz and Kirsten Kracke then teamed up to win the 200 freestyle relay in 1:42.21. O’Reilly closed out her day by setting another meet record in the 100 backstroke with a winning time of 1:01.18.
The Tigers had 34 other top-10 finishes in the meet. Twelve of those efforts made it into the top five, starting with a fifth-place swim by the 200 medley relay team of Robin Ellis, Sara Kintner, Brooke Christenson and Cora Ruzicka.
Kracke followed that up with a fourth-place swim in the 200 freestyle and added a fifth-place showing in the 100 backstroke.
Avestruz just missed a first-place finish in the 50 freestyle as her time of 24.84 set a new school record. The freshman also placed second in the 100 freestyle in 54.86.
Ruzicka also claimed a pair of top-five individual swims. She was third in both the 100 butterfly and 500 freestyle, and joined with Kracke, Ellie Sundet and Sarah O’Reilly for a third-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay.
Other top-five showings came from Kendall Novak in the 1-meter dive (fifth), Abby Haugen in the 100 breaststroke (fourth), Robin Ellis in the 100 backstroke (fourth) and Sundet in the 500 freestyle (fifth).
