The Austin Winter Warm-up was just what the Farmington gymnastics team needed to get its season started Saturday afternoon.

The Tigers looked a little rusty as they suffered multiple falls in all four events, but coach Lynn Baumann was still pleased with the difficult routines her gymnasts attempted while finishing second out of seven teams with 132.7 points. The host Packers won the meet with a score of 137.3.

“We had a very up and down meet, literally.… In saying that, this is why I like going to Austin. (That’s why) they call it the Winter Warm-up,” Baumann said. “The girls threw some very difficult skills, which caused some of the ups and downs. But they sure did catch everyone’s attention. It was fun.”

Returning all-state performer Kiana Lord led the Tigers with a fourth-place score of 33.7 in the all-around. She won the vault with an impressive score of 9.6, placed fifth in the bars with an 8.1 and tied for second in the floor exercise at 8.7.

Another returning all-stater, Nadia Lorencz, placed second in the beam with a score of 8.7, fourth in the floor exercise at 8.65 and fifth in the all-around with a total score of 33.45.

Kylie Wharton placed eighth in the all-around with a score of 32.7. She was seventh in the vault, eighth in the bars, 10th in the balance beam and eighth in the floor exercise.

The Tigers make their home debut tomorrow night when they host Red Wing at the Instructional Services Center.
