Tiger wrestlers win five in a row

It’s been 10 years since the Farmington wrestling team has been on a roll like this. The Tigers, who started the season having gone without a dual win in nearly two years, are now in the midst of their longest winning streak since the 2001-02 season. They improved to 5-4 on the season with their fifth straight dual win, 57-14 over Lakeville South Thursday night at the Farmington High School Auxiliary Gym.

Tiger wrestlers won 11 of the meet’s 14 matches, including eight in a row at one point. During that decisive run, Jake Rudeen, Chris McCue and Joe Hoeve won by fall, Tyler Engel and Trevor Breezly won by decision, Brayden Chapman won by major decision and Matt Rustad and Ridge Raddatz won by forfeit. That stretch pushed the Tigers’ lead from 11-6 to 51-6 over the visiting Cougars.

“The guys wrestled with a lot of confidence and intensity,” Farmington coach Chad Olson said. “I knew we had a chance to win, but never by 43.”

Taylor Venz started the dual with a technical fall at 106 pounds, giving the Tigers a 5-0 lead. Jacob Gabbard followed with a pin to make it 11-0.

Lakeville South was down by 45 points before winning two of the last three matches. Dakoda Louis-Dupay added a pin at 220 pounds for the Tigers.
