Little competition in township elections

Incumbents in Castle Rock, Empire and Eureka will all run unopposed in the March 13 township board of supervisors elections.

The only contested race expected in the ara will be in Castle Rock, for a three-year term currently held by Mark Molitor. Molitor has chosen not to seek reelection.

Vying for Molitor’s spot are former Castle Rock board of supervisor member Michael Keifer, planning commission member Sandra L. Weber and planning commission member Monique Berg. The terms held by both planning commissioner expire this year.

Castle Rock is also the only township that will have a question on this year’s ballot. The question will ask whether residents want the position of town clerk to be an elected or appointed position. The clerk’s spot was made an elected position in the 2008 election, town clerk Jane Bistodeau said, but afterward, many residents said they were confused by the wording so the item is on the ballot this year for clarification. As an elected post, Bistodeau’s two-year term is also up. She runs unopposed for her position.

The three-year supervisor term held by Drea Doffing is also up for election. No one has filed to run against Doffing.

Other races

In Empire, incumbent Ed Gerten runs unopposed for reelection to his term on the board of supervisors. Gerten’s term will be for three years.

Eureka township supervisors Nancy Sauber and Dan Rogers also run unopposed for reelection to their respective posts.
