FHS BPA members advance to state competition

Farmington High School will be well represented at the Business Professionals of America State Conference, a competitive event geared to develop competence in business and office occupations and grow student leadership skills overall. A total of five students advanced from the regional competition to the state event set for March 8-10 at the Hyatt Regency in Minneapolis.

Farmington High School will be well represented at the Business Professionals of America State Conference, a competitive event geared to develop competence in business and office occupations and grow student leadership skills overall. A total of five students advanced from the regional competition to the state event set for March 8-10 at the Hyatt Regency in Minneapolis.

Moving on to state are:

• Chris Kellen, who took third place in JAVA Programming and fourth place in C++ Programming. Kellen also received second place in information technology concepts but will not compete at state in this category.

• Tyler Bade, who took fourth place in JAVA Programming. Bade also earned fifth place in entrepreneurship but will not participate at state in that category.

• Taylor Garcelon, who took fifth place in fundamental accounting. Garcelon placed sixth in insurance concepts and will not participate in this event at state.

• Amanda Herrera, who took fourth place in computerized accounting. Herrera also took seventh place in banking and personal finance but will not participate in this event at state.

• Sadie LaPlante, who took fifth place in banking and personal finance.

Other BPA students to place, but who are not advancing to state, include:

• Amber Rau, second place, insurance concepts; eighth place, banking and personal finance; and tenth place, medical office procedures;

• Becky Genzler, tenth place, banking and personal finance;

• Ali Colline/Meghan Muller, seventh place, small business management

• Scott Atkinson, ninth place, graphic design promotion

A total of 250 students representing 8 schools competed in the Region 1 Tournament held Jan. 27 at Eden Prairie High School.
