Less than a year after it transformed from an Econo Foods to an experimental concept called Savers Choice, Farmington’s grocery store is getting another new name and going back to an old way of doing business.
Nash Finch, the store’s parent company, confirmed Friday that the store will change its name to Family Fresh Market and return to full-service operation.
Savers Choice offers primarily store-brand products with a frequently changing selection of name brand products that often brought big discounts but also made it difficult for shoppers to know what they would find. The store also features a full-service meat counter and pharmacy.
The Farmington store was the only Savers Choice Nash Finch operated when it opened last year.
Nash Finch currently operates Family Fresh stores in Hudson and New Richmond. The stores feature national-brand products as well as floral, bakery and deli departments. They also offer photo processing and in-store nutritionists.
In a statement, Nash Finch said the change in Farmington is a reaction to feedback from the community.
According to the statement the Family Fresh store will offer “a full variety of grocery items along with fresh, high quality perishables.”
The Farmington store went through an extensive remodeling when it made the change from Econo Foods to Savers Choice. It’s not clear yet whether more physical changes will be necessary as it makes the change to Family Fresh, but in its statement Nash Finch said the store will remain open during the change.
Nash Finch is currently working on the timeline for the change.
