Farmington Rotary honored Russ Hatten, Anna Treimer, Andrea Swelland and Crystal Goutierez in February.

The Rotary Club of Farmington has recognized three students and a senior citizen from Christian Life Church and School as its Service Above Self award winners for February.

Andrea Swelland is a fifth grader at Christian Life School. She was recognized for her positive attitude, responsibility and the kindness she shows toward other students. For the past two summers Andrea has helped her mother make deliveries for Meals on Wheels, and for her past two birthdays she has foregone gifts for herself and instead collected donations for the Farmington Food Shelf and Northfield Hospital.

“I enjoy serving others,” Swelland said as she was recognized Feb. 2.

Anna Treimer, a seventh grader at Christian Life, demonstrates good character and a good attitude at her school, according to her teachers. She has volunteered for Feed My Starving Children and at Trinity Care Center. She also helps with homework at Christian Life’s Vacation Bible School.

Crystal Goutierez is a senior at Christian Life. She is a captain of the school’s volleyball team and the current president of the Christian Life Student Council. Crystal served as class president in her freshman, sophomore and junior years and last year won a chance to serve as a page for a week at the state capitol.

Crystal and her family volunteer every Christmas Eve to serve the homeless.

Russ Hatten is Rotary’s senior honoree for February. He is a consistent presence at Christian Life, helping with the church’s senior ministry and helps set up for adult Sunday school. He and his wife, Nancy, have gone on several mission trips. Their favorite destination is the Philippines.

Russ volunteers once a month at Trinity Care Center.

Every month the Farmington Rotary recognizes students and seniors who exemplify Rotary International’s motto of Service Above Self. The club meets for lunch at noon Thursdays at Celt’s Pub.
