A 27-year-old Castle Rock Township man faces several felony charges after he allegedly slapped his girlfriend and threatened others in the house with a broken pen, a steak knife and a sledgehammer.

According to a complaint filed this week in the Dakota County Attorney’s office, Jeremy Jesus Trinidad also threatened to set a dog on fire.

According to the complaint, the argument started after Trinidad’s girlfriend and her father had a meeting with an attorney. When she told Trinidad about the meeting, he reportedly started slapping her. When her father told him to stop he reportedly threatened him as well.

Trinidad had left the house by the time sheriff’s deputies arrived, but they found him a short time later near the intersection of 170th Street and Highway 52. According to the complaint, Trinidad admitted slapping his girlfriend. He said he remembered having a pen in his hand, but didn’t remember threatening anyone with it because he blacks out sometimes.

Trinidad has been convicted of domestic violence offenses twice in the past 10 years. This time, he faces two second-degree assault charges, one third-degree assault charge and one felony domestic assault charge. The second-degree charges have a maximum sentence of seven years and a maximum fine of $14,000. The other charges have a maximum sentence of five years and a maximum fine of $10,000.
