Student voices: Random thoughts of a high school girl

A few thoughts running through the mind of student columnist Marissa Opp.

Snow day?

Last Wednesday the Farmington School District had a snow day for the first time in a couple years. Funny thing about it was, there was only about two inches of snow and tons of ice. I’m not complaining, I just think it’s funny. The snow was very wet and heavy -- perfect snowman building snow. I’m surprised my little neighbors didn’t build any, but I guess they were too busy sledding.

Girl Scout cookies

The one thing that makes this frigid time of the year manageable is when a cute little girl comes around selling Girl Scout cookies. Who can say no to a box of Tagalongs? Definitely not my family.

Finals

This week Farmington High School ended their second trimester, resulting in the dreaded finals week. Test after test after test can get to be incredibly annoying. Personally I think the only good thing that comes out of finals is we always get the next day off of school.

Spring break

There is roughly one week until Spring break! A lot of people are leaving the state for someplace warm and sunny. Those are the people I’ll be jealous of when school restarts.

Super Bowl commercials

I know this is going a while back, but I was really disappointed by the Super Bowl commercials this year. My family and I are a big commercial-watching family, so I was incredibly saddened by this year’s selection. Were you happy with the commercials this year?

Homework

It’s only a little over halfway through the school year and I’m already sick of doing homework. So I cannot wait until summer with none of it. I actually don’t have much homework, but just the idea of having to get it out and do it every day is exhausting.

Nerf guns

In the past year I’ve discovered Nerf guns and they are just so fun! I have had two big “wars” at my house and they’re a ton of fun. Except, picking up the bullets afterwards is kind of a pain. You should try it sometime.

Pets

People say a dog is man’s best friend, but my dogs seem to annoy me more than anything. Sedona and Renegade, my dogs, go in and out of our house so many times a day, it gets annoying.

Sleep

Like every teenager, I like my sleep. But it seems like the older we get, the less we get, and the more we need. This doesn’t make sense to me. I think schools should offer a nap-hour like they did in kindergarten.

So there you have it -- random thoughts of a high school girl.
